whiteCryption’s MCFACT technology has been designed to link program code with a specific security hardware, for instance tokens or smart-cards. Linking program code with a security hardware is the basis for software copy protection.

Software Copy Protection
The copy protection solution works as follows: A protected software product is comprised of MCFACT protected program code and a security hardware. The MCFACT protected progam code calls a crypto-function in the security hardware. Without the crypto- function the software product is incomplete and can not be executed, because the MCFACT protected program code requires the crypto-function to run correctly.

Link to Security Hardware
In general, the MCFACT hardware link can be implemented with any programmable micro controller. The highest level of security is achieved with hardware that has tamper-resistant properties, e.g. a smart-card.

Link to Remote Server
Instead of using a security hardware, the MCFACT hardware link can also be implemented using a DRM system that runs on a remote server.
